With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility

"Peter Parker. Brilliant but lazy."

Whoa, that was some movie right there! All right, I do have issues with a few details, but still, overall? A job very well done, Mr. Raimi. And the cast were awesome as well.

Reminds me why Spidey has always been my all-time superhero. He always has so many real-life problems that he seems almost real. So much so that I can personally relate to his issues. Here's the first of several.

Maria, Wimbledon ChampQuick comic trivia: Dr. Curt Connors -- who in the movie according to Dr. Octavius said how Peter Parker was brilliant but lazy -- tried to develop a serum to emulate reptiles' fast regenerating abilities, to get his missing arm back -- only to become Lizard in the end.

See how quickly we tend to judge people? Brilliant but lazy. While in fact being busy saving others' lives is hardly lazy. But sometimes it just can't be helped. If you're always late, be prepared for frowns and disapproving looks. You might have perfect excuses, but to them you're still late.

It's not always easy to keep promises. But it'll be good if we always try hard. I, for one, always find it difficult to force myself to go out again once I have reached home. On paper it sounds so reasonable -- and so makable: basketball until 12, lunch, going home, a-few-hour nap, then dinner with an old friend who's visiting for 2 days only. Risking the wrath of a few people here, I admit I've been guilty for making up last-minute excuses while I'm simply tired -- and lazy -- to go out again.

Then there are also cases where we keep relying on best scenarios. Like this: working until 4, reaching home at 5, a quick shower, then dinner at 7. While we know only too well from experience that something always comes up when we're about to leave the office. That upon reaching home we always check emails and the download progress on KaZaA before anything else. That we have to do some ironing first. That the trip to the dinner place takes at best 45 mins. So there we are, again, trying to present our something-came-up and I-ran-out-of-clean-shirts excuses to our friends, who try their best not to make their one-hour wait a big deal. After all, what are friends for, right?

The Greeks have won it all, woohoo! I wanted them to win, but I predicted Portugal would come up on top. It was good that -- once again -- my prediction was wrong. And still some people try to blame it on Greece being lucky, gosh! Lucky is finding yourself suddenly alone with the gal you have a crush on in the computer lab and she's having a problem with her programming assignment. Lucky is coming home with a horrible report card and it turns out your mom has just won a car in a lottery. Disposing Zizou-led France, Nedved-led Czech, and Figo-led Portugal -- twice? That is so not lucky.

Oh, BTW, I don't know what was going on, but during the weekend I saw at least three persons at different places, wearing Nirvana T-shirts. So here's a tribute to the late Mr. Cobain and co.

Happy voting, Indonesia. May the best man or woman win. Well, sort of.
