"I'm Spider-Man... no more!"

I'll be honest. This entry has little to do with our web slinger. Just like how great trilogies come in threes, good things come in fives. Maroon 5, Jackson Five, Voltus V -- whoa, 3 ways to write five, how cool is that -- and most of those boy bands. Did I just say boy bands were good? Hmm...

Today -- well, yesterday -- I did something I was not a bit proud of. Something very bad. If you knew me well, you wouldn't ask. If you didn't know me that well, now hopefully you do.

Not-so-quick comic trivia: the death of Gwen Stacy -- the girl Peter Parker cared most about -- at the hands of Green Goblin marked the beginning of a new era in comic book world. It was the first time a superhero's girlfriend died -- and stayed dead. The first time a superhero was defeated and unable to save his loved one. It turned the world -- comic book world, that is -- upside down. Gone was the premise that the hero would always be there when needed, no matter how unsalvageable the situation seemed.

The night Gwen Stacy died, comic superheroes woke up to the bitter reality. Noone should be invincible (Buncis, your fav word -- oh, BTW, I re-mixed that Fastball song) anymore.

Anyway. What happened today -- yesterday -- was a reminder to me. Never take anything for granted. Never think I'm above anyone else. 'Cause I'm so not. Sometimes I think, dude, that'll so never happen to me! I ain't them, I won't do things like that! Yeah, right. And then, not so long after, I look back and think, dude, how could I've done something like that, that is so low! Totally.

Can you practice what you preach?

I apparently can't.
