A few weeks back this thing started popping up after my Windows XP boot-up:
ZeroCfgSvc MFC Application has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Clicked Don't Send and everything worked fine. So I ignored it. Until I noticed that not only did that thingy pop up, the logon process also became slower by the day.
Googled it and found a guy suggesting this latest driver from Dell. Well, mine is an Acer, but I thought, oh, WTH. I was thinking about to re-formatting this notebook anyway, not long ago a brand new shiny thing.
I chickened out when it listed all the Dell models supported. So I downloaded the latest driver from Acer -- never mind its version was the same as mine. One of those situations where you think to yourself, dude, my GF's so dumb! So you dump her, look around, and pick another gal as dumb as your ex, to be your new GF.
Well, the equally dumb GF didn't work out, either.
Seems like there's a compatibility issue with DivX 6.0. Never saw that coming, did you? So, I got myself yet another latest driver. From Intel this time. Also in the same installer was the newest version of Intel PROSet/Wireless. Happy life.
As always, happy life is something reserved for fairy tales' use.
PROSet kept on failing to install when it reached the "XML" and "Profile Manager" sections. Oh, well *shrugs*.
So what's a Dodol Surodol to do? Go back to using XP's Wireless Zero, I guess. These days I don't see myself surfing at the campus anyway.
Update: I just realized that quite a number of you reached this page hoping to find the solution -- and didn't find it here. So here's what I did to finally get rid of the error. I installed the latest patches from Windows Update. Yup, just that; the error has disappeared since. And why had I not done it sooner? Because our IT department had accidentally given me someone else's Windows serial number. So I couldn't download the latest updates -- not after they modified the program to check the serial number's validity first before allowing you to retrieve the patches.
