Lightly Amazing

The Amazing Race is back!

Or the lite version of it. Although with more people. And more time in the US in its first episode than all the seven previous seasons combined. Or perhaps this season would be all in America? Won't complain, it makes a pleasant change from the usual castles, mimes, and India.

When I heard they were making a TAR: Family Edition, my first thought was, shoot, they're gonna drag lil kids around, make them go through bungee jumping, skydiving, and, well, India. Poor kids; travel experience won't be the same again for them thereafter.

Not sure why I always picture a dad, a mom, and two kids whenever "family" is mentioned in a gameshow context. I mean, come on, that is so KB. What is this, the eighties?

Happy 100th Entry

I just realized that the last entry marked the century for this blog.

So, let's drink to that.

Frankly, when I started this blog, I hardly thought it would even reach the 6th-month mark. I guess I'm more garrulous than I thought I was. Heh.

They say, when you have reached a landmark in your life, go for the next one. I wonder what mine would be. Hmm, the 200th entry? All right, let's also drink to that, then.

A Quiet Afternoon

All Pete wanted was a quiet afternoon just like any other. A 70-something-year-old (you stop paying attention to the last digit after a while) retiree and peace loving by nature, he dug a leisurely walk in the park a couple of hours before the sun called it a day.

There was this park bench that Pete particularly liked to sit on. Nowadays he could not recall the reason for this distinct liking, but it seemed as if he had sat there for centuries now -- although decades would've been more like it.

On happier days he would have a long-time buddy with him, chatting away, celebrating the past and making fun of the present generation -- the way 70-something retirees did. On those not-so-happy he would have the same long-time buddy casting gloomy remarks on everything and nothing -- also the way 70-something retirees did.

Today was one of Pete's unlucky days.

"Would you believe kids these days?" was what this buddy had said by way of greeting.

"And howdy to you, too," Pete had replied.

Turd on Court

All right, let's have a normal blog entry for a change, shall we? Well, as normal as it can be when it comes to pieces of excrement lying on a basketball court, anyway.

So we were having a good time playin' pick-up games and dunkin' on the rim *yeah, so very right* when the ball went out of play and over the fence. One of us ran out, almost got hit by a Porsche, stopped for a moment or two to admire the sleek car, retrieved the ball, and tossed it back onto the court.

Actually, only the first and last two actions took place. The rest... well, what do you expect, this is a blog after all. Although, now and then we do get millions-worth cars passing by our humble court.

Whoa, Charged!

Just scanned through this site of mine; I think I'm still safe. For now.

Note to self, then: from now on, refrain from calling anyone anything bad. Yup, including Miss Universe finalists, Jehovah's Witnesses, and Detroit Pistons.

Or, at the very least, refrain from calling anyone anything bad in English. Which, as you guys have witnessed, is easier written than done.

You know what, on second thought, I'd better not write about that gajah putih stuff -- see, I can watch what I type. And so can you.

Current music: none
Current mood: happy

Em-Cee

Doc: "Good evening. How are you?"

Aspiring Patient: "Good, Doc." So what am I doing here?

Doc: "All right. What do we have here?" I know exactly what. You just want an MC, don't you?

Aspiring Patient: "This morning I had this fever, Doc."

Doc: "Morning, huh?" And that's why you're visiting this clinic at 7 PM.

Aspiring Patient: "Yes. It actually started last night. But it got worse in the morning."

Bilingual

"You know something? I think you just take the easy way out."

Tau nggak lu? Elu tuh cuma nggak mau susah doang.

"Huh?"

Hah?

"Yup, that's right. Have a look. Everything is in English."

Yoi, emang gitu. Liat aja. Semuanya bahasa Inggris.

"So? What's wrong with writing in English? Lots of people do that."

Trus? Apa salahnya nulis pake bahasa Inggris? Banyak yang gitu.
