The Amazing Race is back!

Or the lite version of it. Although with more people. And more time in the US in its first episode than all the seven previous seasons combined. Or perhaps this season would be all in America? Won't complain, it makes a pleasant change from the usual castles, mimes, and India.

When I heard they were making a TAR: Family Edition, my first thought was, shoot, they're gonna drag lil kids around, make them go through bungee jumping, skydiving, and, well, India. Poor kids; travel experience won't be the same again for them thereafter.

Not sure why I always picture a dad, a mom, and two kids whenever "family" is mentioned in a gameshow context. I mean, come on, that is so KB. What is this, the eighties?

So, it was good to see that out of the ten teams (ligther by one) only two have young kids. And one of them was already Philiminated. BTW, Black family? Now, see, that's racism on my part right there. If a white guy can have a White surname, why laugh when a black guy has a Black surname? Racism is everywhere, indeed.

I actually enjoyed the show more than expected. Just by not comparing it to the rest of the seasons. Besides, loud, screeching people are still there, obnoxious men and women are still there, overly religious people are still there, hot girls (and their jiggling properties) and former beauty queen(s?) are still there, and yes, shirtless, muscular guys are still there; it almost feels like the normal TAR. Except with a few kids -- two now. And the all-America.

Oh, and Kevin and Drew cameoed. How cool is that!

Just hope they won't make the teams drive all the way. 'Cause that would be World Rally. Except with a few kids. And the all-America. Might as well make a reality show casting Loeb, Gronholm, and McRae.

On the other hand, that'll mean no more teams who happen to have a driver who happen to ask for directions in Spanish. Nah, I'm over it, really. Just looking for a way to put yet another reference to my own entries. Self-pimping is not as bad as you might think, you know.

I feel compelled to explain that "overly religious" comment a bit. I have no problem with religious people. Honest. Well, other than thinking how they're weird sometimes. Then again, I also think people with too much brain are weird. As do I think people who spend weekends coding -- myself included, sadly -- are weird. You wanna be God lovers all you want, fine. You wanna mention Jesus in every other sentence that you speak, cool. You wanna preempt every commitment you're about to make with an "if God permits" fine print, go ahead. But don't go around telling people to be as God-crazy as you are. Don't look down onto others who don't happen to share your personal beliefs and views.

(What does an insomniac, agnostic, dyslexic person do? He stays up all night, wondering if there is a dog.)

To put it back in reality TV perspectives, if God exists (I believe so -- there, I said it) why should He help a contestant who can't even drive stick?
