As inspired, in no particular order and in no way all.
* Metallica. Sure, they're still around and as rockin', but you can't discuss them with just about anyone anymore. I can imagine a few years down the road, my son (oh yeah, I'll have a son and he plays basketball) and I would be in our car -- he would be driving, of course -- and as it happens we would have Master of Puppets playing on a "gold" radio and I would go, hey, check it out, Son, it's Metallica! And he would go, huh, Meta-what?, and look at me forgivingly and think, I love my dad but sometimes he still lives in the past millennium.
* Hair bands -- GnR, Skid Row, White Lion, Steelheart, Stryper, Poison, Warrant, etc, etc. And with that, Porseni, Temu Musik, Pekan Seni, PL Fair, POR CC, etc, etc. And I believe in you, oh through and through...
* Jupe, Pete, and Bob. Misteri Puri Setan is still to me the best teenage adventure ever written. In fact, I re-read it a couple of months back and still found it exciting. Wish I could say the same about Voltus V and Lion Maru and Saur Sepuh.
* While we're at it, Saur Sepuh, Misteri Gunung Merapi, Tutur Tinular, Ibuku Malang Ibu Tersayang, and Sanggar Cerita cassettes. I can't even begin to imagine what my son would say, so I'll leave it at that.
* The A-Team, Greatest American Hero, Remington Steele, Cheers, My Secret Identity, etc, etc. See above.
* Catatan Si Boy and New Kids on the Block. "Cool" guys personified. See how simple things were then? Even Boy George and Billy Idol were, well, idolized.
* BMX bikes, Atari, Game & Watch, and whatever made you one to hang out with. OK, against my better judgment, I'll go on the record by stating that while I was a marble sharp-shooter, I sucked big time at flying kites. Wanna know how many kites I managed to fly up all by myself? Two. How many of those two I managed to keep at the end of the day? None. But it's all right, don't think my son will ever surpass me in that department anyway.
* School fights and getting palak'd. Being a lone bus taker -- that's what you get for living in the outskirt of civilization -- and looking quite harmless (read: helpless) for a guy my age then, I survived the whole ordeal that was SMP and SMA pretty much unscathed. Well, apart from getting mistakenly beaten up once and (appropriately) palak'd twice. Still, not too bad, all things considered, and I would like to thank God again and again for that.
* Other activities falling under juvenile delinquency category. I'm sure y'all know what I'm talking -- or not -- about here. Let's not involve my son.
BTW, if you (like me) are experiencing problems with Windows Update (it fails to recognize that you have the required object installed, yet does not prompt to install it) and some sites' ActiveX controls after installing M$' KB896688 update, try this fix. Worked for me.
