Thank God for Kobe Bryant

My first God-thanking entry in 2006.

You sure that's an 81?On the day that I had to drag myself out of bed and arrived at work half an hour late, on the day papers praised Rio Ferdinand for his heroics, Kobe Bryant gave me at least one reason to smile. He had 26 when I left for lunch. He had 81 when I returned.

Yes, it was a long lunch -- don't change the subject.

You know, some time back I made a subconscious decision not to write about things you can easily read on papers and the web. Well, not too much anyway. If you want to read an interesting take on an actual event, a concert, a movie, a book, etc, you can find tons out there and I can't for the love of me write any better than them.

But eighty-friggin'-one points in a single game? That might not happen again in my lifetime -- that's a hint to Kobe, BTW -- and so I have to write about it. Who knows, somewhere in the distant future there might come a global disaster, natural or otherwise, that destroys all history records but this blog of mine.

Let it thus be recorded, then, that on Jan 23, 2006 at noon SGT, Kobe Bryant, 27 years of age, of the Los Angeles Lakers scored 81 points in a game (55 in the second half alone) against the Toronto Raptors -- and he didn't need an overtime to do it.

OK, I've done my part for mankind. Now, go to ESPN or whatever for details.

I will now focus on a much more important matter in hand: what can one do with a 3D model of one's own head?

I downloaded this very cool software. You can actually load your own photos -- only three are required: front, left, and right -- and have it construct the 3D model. Check out the result.

That's my head times 15, how do you like that?

Other than creating a talking head and sticking it up there, I don't see it of much use. Too bad, it's quite fun. Why oh why are fun things generally useless?

To preempt Juwi from voicing any objection here, I'd say: if it keeps you sane, then it can't be that useless after all, now, can it?
