If I were to say that our blogosphere, the world our blogs live in, is saturated, how many of you would agree with me? Not many, I'd guess.
Yet, to me, that's what it looks like at the moment.
You search for a string on Google -- yeah, right, like... Dude, where else! -- and you'll likely end up with thousands of blogs having discussed that topic left, right, center, then back to left (and right and center) again. You read two different blogs by two different authors and you'll probably find at least one common topic that both have written about.
It's getting increasingly -- and frustratingly -- difficult to find a refreshing blog these days. A blog with completely new perspectives is as elusive as a needle in a haystack. At least with the needle, you're sure it's there.
Years ago, having stumbled upon this blogging phenomenon, I got quickly bored with all the similar posts. Everyone -- referring to Indonesian blog authors here -- seemed intent on documenting their daily lives.
Oh, today I went here, met so-and-so, then had my hair done, then went home, then got into a fight with my mom -- I love you, Mom, but this sucks.
Sounds familiar? Not to mention the same names that appeared everywhere. Everyone linked everyone else. Everyone left comments on everyone else's blog. Yup, Indonesian blogosphere was that small.
Then lights started to emerge -- years may have passed, but we bloggers stay prone to dramatic choices of words -- and one blogger after another started to distinguish themselves from the rest. There were more variety of topics, more different styles of writing, sharper minds, deeper thoughts, and more arguments based on extensive researches and not the mere "I say so, trust me 'cause I'm good at this -- don't like it, take it elsewhere" attitude.
Which is good. Oh, definitely.
So what's this saturation thing, then?
Years ago, every now and then I would get lost in the blogosphere, find a blog, and think, damn, dude's good!, and immediately bookmarked the site.
As more 'good' bloggers manifested themselves, however, the 'good' became 'common' and soon, I stopped adding new links to my personal bookmarks. What for? I have Google at my disposal. To find interesting blog entries -- as opposed to blogs -- I'll simply click on the first few of those thousands of results.
Now, not saying the quality is in decline here. Not at all. In fact, if anything, it gets better. It's just... too many of them. Couple that with the "life sucks" and "I had my hair done" blogs that also multiply by the minute.
Yes, blogs that multiply -- pun intended.
Blogs Attack!
Invasion of the Blogs!
The Curse of the Black Blogs!
Blogs, to me, have stopped being personal and distinguishable. I still have my "whoa, dude's good!" moments now and then. And every 10 or so of such moments, I still add the site to my personal bookmarks -- now called blogroll, of course. But even that 10 or so usually spans across months.
Partly because I don't blogsurf let alone blogwalk anymore. And why must I? Bloglines and tons of other news aggregators out there do the job for me. Hmm, come to think about it...
You know what, that title above, The Saturation of the Blogosphere? Check that. It should've read: The Saturation of My Blogosphere. My personal blog-world can barely take in new blogs, other than those whose authors I know personally or I can at least relate to personally.
I think I'm missing the good ol' blogosphere.
The silly online diarists' neighborhood where everybody knows your name.

interesting thought. gotta agree wif you. i just blog for merely a year and stopped blogwalking few months back and rely more on bloglines and new blog was barely add >_
Di multiply, nyaris gak pernah add contact, kecuali di add duluan. RSS cuma berisi maksimal 6-8 link. Yah namanya jurnal harian, biar gak keliatan mati ya upload aja. Hehehe..
Jenuh? Yah gitu deeeh..
Udah. Nggak trus nafsu masukin blogroll.
Yang penting kalo mamam duren ngajak-ngajaklah.
Gue termasuk baru di dunia blog-blog-an ini, tapi gue aja sekarang udah ngerasa jenuh. Mungkin isi kepala gue ya, yang makin penuh dengan hal-hal yang ngebosenin, jadinya ngeliat apapun kok jadi seperti: "ooohh...gitu", trus udah, nggak berkesan lagi.
He he he, elu sial, Juwi. Masuknya pas dunia blog udah kepenuhan, makanya cepet jenuh.
BTW, yang ngajakin elu ngeblog siapa sih?
Emang nasibnya gue aja kali, ya, telat :-). Yang ngajakin gue ngeblog? Kayaknya elu salah satunya, deh :-p.
iyya, pokoknya semua mah gara gara ELUH!
bwek.
Ini lagi ibu-ibu satu ikut-ikutan! Huh!
Waktu kisruh gara-gara krismon, pengen reformasi. Waktu kisruh gara-gara krispol pasca-reformasi, pengen balik ke masa pra-reformasi.
Waktu kelar kuliah pengen kerja. Kerja bentar, bosen, pengen kuliah lagi. Bosen kuliah lagi, pengen kerja lagi.
Kenichi bilang: VOLT TOGETHER!
salah odol,
Kenichi bilangnya : LET'S VOLT IN!
gituh...
Bukan. Kenichi bilang: VOLT TOGETHER!
Abis itu baru lima-limanya barengan: LET'S VOLT IN!
Trus:
Teret tereret teret
Teret tereret teret
Teroret roret
Teroret roret
...dst
You miss your old blogosphere?
Same here.. I miss the early years of internet technology.
Well.. it's not easy to degrade yourself from using the niche product into using the mass product.. ;) Especially if you know that you're still using the SAME product ;)
Kangen suasananya iya. Kangen teknologi zaman dulunya enggak.
Ogah ah kalo tiap kali ngunduh gambar 40KB aja musti nunggu 5 menit, trus tiap kali ujan deres dikit koneksi dimatiin.
