Saturday and a Strawberry

I stand by my earlier statement that Facebook is pretty much a useless entity.

Kinda like those neither-horizontal-nor-vertical platform benches you find at the Dhoby Ghaut station. I can't sit on it as I'll surely slide off, regardless of the kind of pants I'm in. I can't put anything on it as it'll surely slide off. I can't throw anything at it as I'll surely get fined -- and it'll surely slide off.

You know, come to think of it, I reckon they'd be better off with a fully vertical bench. We wouldn't call it a bench, of course, but it would at least pass for yet another so-called artistic piece this city is so fond of. Which one would you prefer: a useless tool or a piece of art? Funny how mind works, eh?

So yeah, Facebook is still useless. But sometimes, even the most useless stuff -- that platform not-bench again springs to mind -- has its use. Talkin' 'bout being self-contradictory.

Just the other day I added the Know Me Well? application -- another of those faux confidence-boosting apparatus Facebook is littered with. The premise is that you answer 200 (yes, kid you not) questions and have others guess what your answers were. The application would then calculate your scores and show you which friends supposedly know you best and likewise, who you know best.

I always pride myself on being observant. That is, I like to play the role of an observer, watching what others say and do and trying to guess what they would say or do in a particular situation. A skill you would like to hone when you're in a consultancy business, IT or otherwise. And so far, I suppose I've been doing not too bad a job, hence the pride.

But what Know Me Well? comes up with rattles me a little. For just about everyone seems to know me better than I do them.

I didn't do too badly, mind you. It's just that it turns out a) everyone else is a better observer; and b) I'm not so much a closed book I once thought I was. Not really a bad thing, not at all. It just wasn't something I expected.

Like, I only scored 69% on my roommate -- boy, does that sound kinky -- while she scored 79% on me. Granted, were you to ask me to re-answer the questions on myself, I might not do so well, either. Am I a smart person? Well, guess what, I don't know what my answer was! For all I know, the probability of me answering Yes is pretty much the same as me answering No. Which goes to show that perhaps I don't really know me that well, either. Heh.

But still. Because it's not so much knowing your friends well as knowing your friends well enough to be able to guess how they would answer. And I really think I should've done a better job at that. I've known my roommate for more than thirteen years and the best I managed was 69%? The same score I managed on a lady I've known for barely a year? Unacceptable.

Oh well, I won't dwell on it too much and I suggest you don't, either. There are so many more useful things to do. Like working my vampire to reach the Sinister Vampire level or getting myself revved up for the Blackburn match or simply enjoying the beautiful Saturday.

(Whoa, I just realized I could see the Singapore Eye or whatever it is they call that thing from my bedroom window!)

Speaking of useless/useful stuff, here's another thing I just learned:

Experts think Celts got the best deal of the summer in KG. Well, I'm no expert, but I reckon -- yup, that's two reckons in one entry, very unusual -- it's the Suns who made the best move when they drafted one DJ Strawberry out of Maryland. I mean, come on, does this kid have the coolest name in the NBA or what!

It's actually called the Singapore Flyer. I guess when you're copying someone else's concept, the least you can do is call it a different name.

Eh, cuma roomate kan? Nggak bedmate.. HAHAHA..

Tapi, kalau cuma roomate, wajar lah kalo skor cuma 69%.
